Route Description

1. Head south from the parking spot down a narrow lane. Follow the lane, ignoring various driveways marked private until the lane peters out and becomes a stoney bridleway. The track is rocky and slow but the views are well worth it and it’s easily doable for a horse with good feet. Bring hoof boots if you’re unsure though!

2. Continue through the gate onto Holcombe Moor where the track widens out. Keep to the lefthand track, skirting round the moor. Peel Tower is directly ahead of you, a way off in the distance. Continue along the track until you reach a junction of rocky paths. Keep left and follow the path as it heads down through a farm yard and past a cattle grid.

3. Ride between the school on your left and the riding school on your right, heading down towards a pub and the main road. Keep to the minor lane that runs parallel to the main road behind several cottages. At the obvious junction, take the righthand fork signed for Peel Tower. Turn right again and follow the switchback path as it takes you steeply uphill to the top. Ride past the tower, stopping to take in the view and continue along the track as you loop back down to where the paths split earlier on. Retrace your steps north to the parking spot.

NOTE: There are routes over Holcombe Moor. These are used regularly by the riding school. However, it’s can get incredibly boggy and so these routes haven’t been included. Peel Tower can also be included in a bigger loop of the area.
